Mom's Away? I Got This. - Day #4 11/03/17

The Final Day - Well Jenn, happy to say we’ve made it through the final day of being on our own and we’re all very excited for your return! In preparation for that, my first priority today was to clean up the cat puke from a couple days ago. While we’ve learned to skillfully dodge that spot on the rug while walking down the hallway all week, it seemed like it had hardened enough that it would just flick right off the rug. The time was right. Much to my delight, when I went to scoop it off the floor with the pancake spatula from the kitchen, it was gone! Turns out one of the dogs ate the puke and took care it for me. Extra treats for the dogs today! Such good pups! By the way, we’re getting low on Milk Bones. I never realized how many of those the dogs could actually eat. They literally won’t stop eating them until I stop handing them out of the bowl. A couple of the days we didn’t even need to feed them their regular food because they had so many. On a side note, their “poops” have been a little runny recently. We may want to look into that.
As I said, we’re really looking forward to you coming home. I will say, I think I got out pretty easy this week. Every day after school when I asked the kids if they had any homework that night, the answer was always, “Nope”. Can you believe it? I totally lucked out. Never had to get into any of that arguing back and forth about getting the homework done that you go through everyday. Remember during school Open House last month when Mason’s English teacher said, “Even if your children say they don’t have English homework, they’re required to read at least 30 minutes every day.”? Well, apparently, they had the week off from that too. It’s like they knew I’d be parenting at home alone. Travel safe and we can’t wait to see you. On the way home from the airport we should stop for toothpaste. We’ve squeezed out about as much as we can from the tube in the bathroom thanks to Mason’s suggestion that if we all just brushed once a day, we could stretch it out a little longer. He was right!   My son’s favorite word is “Bullshit”. He hasn’t come out and actually told me that. But as a parent who spends a lot of time around my son and can answer with confidence that his favorite food is chicken tenders and his favorite sports are baseball and basketball, I have just as much confidence saying that his favorite word is bullshit. The Lingering Effects of Getting Kicked in the Nuts

I feel like I need to clarify something from a recent post. The thought of kicking the opposing coach in the nuts, while a straight-up violent act, driven by a lethal mix of frustration and anger and capable of delivering a crippling injury, would have been dispatched with the intention of causing complete public humiliation as opposed to physical discomfort. Sure, a direct hit to the nuts does indeed come with excruciating pain whether it be from an oncoming assailant or just the unfortunate placement of oneself on the seat of a bicycle, but what tends to hurt more is the lingering embarrassment that comes with unintended contact to the genital area. Think about it. Boxing, a sport based on the whole idea of hitting your opponent until he falls down, has devised a rule for nothing “below the belt”. "The Final Stretch of Side A" Part 9 of 12 Track #8 - “True Blue” Just as quickly as the mood got creepy with some deep Depeche Mode, we take a sharp left to get out of the woods. No worries that the Juice might be an over-obsessed lover, that’s a different OJ. Straying from the 80’s New Wave/Alternative music vibe, Olive Juice drives to the lane with an easy Madonna lay-up. “True Blue, baby, I love you.”  Sure, lyrically, this song sums up the entire purpose of this tape in one catchy pop song, but even though it’s the album’s namesake, I think we all know that “Live To Tell” is the real winner from this album. However, when it comes to lyrics, a song about distrust, lies, and childhood scars would probably have ruined the mood Olive Juice had so carefully created up to this point (sans creepy Depeche Mode mood).
